"It's a great book city,'' says Doug Price of the West Side Book Shop, which has 30 years under its belt selling used, rare and out-of-print books.

For students looking for a good deal or simply curious, there's world of surprises out there beyond bookstore giants like Borders and Barnes & Noble. And it's easy to explore: Many independent bookstores, with everything from brand-new commentary on our times to murder mysteries to used and antique titles, are sprinkled around campus and the Main Street area.
